Join us at Strand Quay on Saturday 12th December from 2pm till 3pm where we will be supporting Rye Christmas Festival with a festive range of songs (mixed with some of our favourites).
This year’s Maritime Festival was a perfect afternoon. Bright blue skies, hot sunshine, a waterside venue and our own little camp where we set up a bar and picnic to keep us going through the afternoon.
The Orchestra played their usual toe-tapping sets but, for the first time, we were pleased to introduce three new feature sections from the Ukuladies, Ali Catt & Co and Mrs Hall’s Buoys.

Mrs Hall’s Buoys
Our thanks go to all who supported us by throwing money in the St Michael’s Hospice bucket. We raised a considerable sum of money – yet to be confirmed. We’re also grateful to all those who stopped to listen and gave us such great rounds of applause. Lastly thanks to the organisers for such a wonderful event.
The Rye Ukulele Orchestra and Experiment will be performing a great selection of their favourite numbers from 12.15 onwards. We will also be featuring special sections from the Ukuladies, Alison Catt& Co and Mrs Hall’s Buoys. Come along and join us.
On Saturday 13th December we had the great honour to greet Father Christmas at Strand Quay as he arrived by boat. We now know the chords to “Here comes Santa Claus” rather well!
It was a bright but bitterly cold afternoon – well attended by children and parents alike and we managed to add to our St Michael’s Hospice collection considerably. Thanks everyone.
Tuesday 16th December was our Christmas Party. Our MC Mr Kenneth Hall did a fantastic job of overseeing the event (devised by Mr Ian Burford). A great Christmas meal was served by the Queens Head staff and we entertained each other (hopefully) with party pieces and a great sing song – accompanied obviously by our Ukes. Thanks to Pam Stroud for her financial services too.
STRAND COURT CHRISTMAS PARTY
Thursday 17th saw us, with somewhat depleted numbers, entertaining the folks at Strand Court. They were a brilliant bunch, joined in enthusiastically and were incredibly generous with their donations to our St Michael’s Hospice fund – and their mince pies and sherry. Thanks again.
This Tuesday 23rd December will be our last get-together before Christmas.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our supporters – remember – Four Strings Good.
I’m dreaming of a White Christmas
To celebrate the Christmas season we will be down at Strand Quay this Saturday (13th December) to welcome Father Christmas ashore. A group of us will brave the temperatures (but not the rain unfortunately) to play a mix of our standards and some extra Christmassy music.
I’m told a bouncy castle, some fun rides and food stalls will also be at the Quay. Come and join us from 2.30pm for some foot stamping, hand clapping Christmas cheer.
NEWCHURCH VILLAGE FETE
This Saturday, the 30th August sees the Rye Ukulele Experiment performing at Newchurch Village Fete. The group will play from 1.30pm – followed by a Ukulele workshop for anyone who fancies trying their hand. Then 3.30pm (approx.) will see us back again to play the fete out. We are crossing everything for decent weather.
RYE MARITIME FESTIVAL
Sunday 31st of August and we’ll be down at Strand Quay, Rye playing waterside (towards St Margaret’s Terrace) from around 3pm. The Rye Maritime Festival will be in full swing with loads of decent music and fun stuff to see and do.
