Last week saw the return of The Scallop Festival in Rye and RUE enjoyed playing a variety of Sea related songs for our lovely audience. Also our very talented crew performed solo spots and some songs written especially for the evening by Floris.
Thanks to Jonathan and his team at the Queens Head for the delicious scallop dishes and thanks also to the brilliant support from our audience and their generosity towards The Ukulele Kids Charity UK. Below is a photo of some of the Band with Olly Campion who organises the festival and supports this website with his technical knowledge for us.
Tuesday night at the Queens took on a distinctly fishy feeling this week. We were delighted to be able to join in with the Rye Scallop Festival and added to our usual repertoire a dozen or so sea-themed songs in keeping with the evening.
Amongst the players were the full Ukulele Orchestra and several first time performers. During the evening there were also special spots from the ‘Au Reservoir’ Jazz trio, The Ukulele Ladies, Ali Catt and Bob and the Good Ole Boys. See pics below courtesy of Geoff Kempson and Kevin Hall.
Thanks to Jon and his team at the Queens Head for the yummy scallops and thanks also to the brilliant support from our audience and their generosity towards St Michael’s Hospice when the hat went round.
Another load of scallops rolls around again. It doesn’t seem a year!
To celebrate 2016 the Rye Ukulele Experiment will be performing their famous fish themed set list (well fish, beach, seaside, water – anything we can think of really) at the Queens Head in Rye on Tuesday 23rd February 2016. There will also be special ‘spots’ throughout the evening for Ali Catt & Co, Bob and the good old boys, Au Reservoir and the Ukulele Ladies.
We will kick off at 7.30pm with all welcome to pop in and listen. Jonathan will also be serving some scallop/fishy themed nibbles during the evening to get us in the mood. As the local saying goes – It’s shucking time again!
Join us tonight at The Queen’s Head, Langate, Rye to celebrate the scrumptious Rye Bay Scallop. Jonathan and staff will be providing some tasty treats whilst the Rye Ukulele Experiment will be performing many of their firm favourites alongside other more fishy and seaside themed songs.
A belated happy new year to all. Some of us carried on meeting right through the holidays and others were stricken down by the seasonal sickness, but hopefully we will be back to full strength by tonight.
So far we have two definite dates for our diary. On Tuesday 24th February we will be supporting the Rye Bay Scallop Week by playing at the Queens Head from 7.30pm. Jonathan will provide some tasty nibbles and apart from our usual favourites we will also be performing some scallop, fish and seaside themed songs.
Rye Ukulele Festival
Another important date for your diary is Sunday 24th May when we are planning the first ever Rye Ukulele Festival. This will take place at the Cinque Ports pub in Cinque Ports Street. We are planning to start at around 12.30pm and invite other local Uke groups to join us. There will also be a joint strum at the end. A new webpage for the festival should be up and running today so that we can keep you informed.
