Here we are after playing at the RSPCA Open Day event recently in Hastings, great day there, next stop Festival, Yaay!!
We had a busy April, playing at another two venues, the first was at Iden’s Ship to Shore Variety show where the Experiment played the matinee and evening performances. The audience joined us singing along with a selection of sea inspired songs and sea shanties!
We followed this by playing at the Heffle Cuckoo Fair at Heathfield a Fair held to raise funds for Demelza Children’s Charity, a really well attended fair with lots of interesting stalls and various events.
We had a great time at all of the April venues we played at and are busy rehearsing ready for our next venue which is the RSPCA Open Day on 28th May at Bluebell Hill in Hastings, check out our What’s On page for future events, looking forward to seeing you there!
We are happy to report that all the preparations are well underway for our 3rd Ukulele Festival!
Our theme for this year is the music of 1967 in honour of 50 years of Sgt Pepper release, so dig out your hippy garb, twiggy dresses, floppy hats et. all and we will have a groovy time!
Last week saw the return of The Scallop Festival in Rye and RUE enjoyed playing a variety of Sea related songs for our lovely audience. Also our very talented crew performed solo spots and some songs written especially for the evening by Floris.
Thanks to Jonathan and his team at the Queens Head for the delicious scallop dishes and thanks also to the brilliant support from our audience and their generosity towards The Ukulele Kids Charity UK. Below is a photo of some of the Band with Olly Campion who organises the festival and supports this website with his technical knowledge for us.
In 2016, we played at over 20 events……fairs, festivals, fetes, and open days. The charities we supported included The Music Well, St Michaels Hospice, Dementia Awareness, Sue Ryder, The Sara Lee Trust and the RSPCA. In addition, we independently raised £245.24 for St Michaels Hospice, and £873.64 for The Ukulele Kids Club UK. We met many new friends and had lots of fun along the way!
Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us and put coins (and notes!) into our buckets. Let’s see if we can improve on that in 2017!
A Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all! RUE have had an amazing year, we have met some wonderful new people played at lots of venues, new and old, enjoyed some great Ukulele Festivals and along the way have raised lots of money for Charity, can’t be bad!
Our next meeting at the Queens Head will be Tuesday 3rd of January, and we are looking forward to another fun filled Ukulele year!
Best Wishes for Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year to all!
A great festive singsong recently with the lovely people of Iden, after their Seniors Christmas dinner. Thanks to their generous donations, we have another £78.85 going into the St Michaels Hospice pot.
And just to keep us on our toes, last Saturday we were asked to play at the Butter Market as part of the Christmas in Rye Celebrations, a good time was had by all!
We wanted to share with you a lovely letter we received from Maria from the Sara Lee Trust. We had great fun and are looking forward to the next time!
Dear Justine and all the members of the Rye Ukulele Experiment,
Huge thanks for donating your time to play at our Christmas Fair on Saturday, it was so wonderful to have your fantastic music during the day, it completely lifted the atmosphere and we have received lovely feedback from all who attended on how much they enjoyed it.
We raised an incredible £2,646.12 from the Fair and Raffle which will be used to provide essential care and support services to local people living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
On behalf of everyone at the Trust, thanks once again – we really hope you enjoyed being part of the Fair and would love to see you all next year, to do it all over again.
With very best wishes,
Maria, Nikki and everyone at The Sara Lee Trust
