St Michaels Hospice Vintage Fair and RSPCA Bluebell Ridge

Well, we have been busy recently playing to help raise funds for two very worthwhile charities and having a whale of a time! We were hoping to play outside at the Vintage Fair but the weather decided otherwise and in the end we played amongst all the wonderful items on offer in the main tent to a lovely audience!

If you have not been to St Michaels Hospice Vintage Fair before put a note in your diary for next year, lots to see and do along with helping a very worthwhile Charity.  Here we are enjoying ourselves.

Blue Bell Ridge RSPCA Cat rehoming Centre in Hastings  is a joy to visit, The cats are so well cared for by the wonderful staff and  volunteers and it was very difficult for the band, who are all animal lovers with quite a few of our own, not to come home with a new member of the family!   If you are looking for a new cat to join your family, look no further.  We enjoyed delicious cake with our tea and a great time was had by all. We have been invited to return to help them with their fund raising and we shall be very happy to do so.   Lovely sunny day at this one!

Playing on a Sunny Afternoon in the Summertime, in the Summertime….

One of the great things of belonging to such a special place as Rye is that we are asked to playing is some secret places, and so it was at the recent fund raising event for Rye’s Bonfire Society. A beautiful garden tucked away behind the high street where there were many stalls selling a myriad of things, along with tea and cake what more could you want!

Two Weeks To Go!

Only two weeks to go now and things are hotting up at festival HQ!

Although we have a larger number of seats than last year if you have any portable picnic chairs and or tables it would be a good idea to bring them to ensure you get seats. The grassed area in front of the stage will be set aside for seating on picnic blankets for people who want to bring them

There will be bar areas set up along with a gourmet food truck, wood fired pizza and an ice cream van, There will also be two ukulele stalls.

If you wanted to perform this year at the festival but we were full when you applied, don’t forget our open mic from about 6pm, you can register on arrival and it will run on a first come first served basis.

Also, just a reminder – if you are able to donate any preloved/new instruments/tuners to the Ukulele Kids Club UK bring them along on the day and we will make sure they get there and they know who donated them.

So Tune your Ukes, Dust off your Hawaiian outfits and get your satnav, map or whatever you use! ready to come and join us for a fun day and don’t forget to keep those fingers and toes crossed for sunny weather!

The generous people of Rye

Last night’s cheque presentation to St Michael’s Hospice from the Rye Ukulele Orchestra.

Centre stage – Ian Burford, long standing member of the group and our MD was delighted to present Bruni Lovett with a cheque for just over £600.  The money was raised at the various busking and booked events that we played last year and exceeded our expectations considerably.  It is heart-warming that people are so generous for such a worth-while cause.  Bruni stayed the course and listed to a bit of rehearsal – brave lady.

Thanks to all those who contributed so generously in 2015.  We’d love to try and beat the amount this year.

Playing in vintage style

3Thanks St Michael’s Hospice organisers for including us  at your fabulous vintage fair last Saturday.  The sun shone and the crowds arrived and, just like Glastonbury and Reading, the mud did not spoil the day.

The line up included Bob, Graham, Lorna, Justine, Pam and Ali.

Don’t forget to invite us next year, some of us have a taste for vintage now.

Thanks to Battle Photographic Club for their images
